This season’s first league meet will be held at our very own Arcadia County Park, featuring the familiar and fast “home course”. Runners from Crescenta Valley, Burbank, Burroughs, and more will descend on our home turf and challenge us for a league title. Although the team ran excellently at Woodbridge, don’t show up overconfident and cocky. Our league is still very competitive, and schools like CV and Burbank will still pose a challenge. We can’t get caught off guard and expect wins; we have to earn them. Therefore, we must show up with the right attitude, run fast times on our familiar course, and set the tone for what our league can expect for future races.
League meets are special races – they occur on Thursdays, so you might miss a portion of 5th period class. Although the procedure hasn’t been finalized yet, runners will usually change into race gear at lunch, and meet up during 5th period in the Rally Court. Because this League Meet is located in our own park, there is a possibility that runners can finish 5th period before their races.
One of the special team traditions before League Meets is a potluck dinner. The location and time have yet to be determined, but the event is the same as before – each grade level brings a different dish on the Wednesday night before the race; we have dinner, load up on carbs, and bond with teammates. These usually end around 9 pm, so make sure you complete your homework. Request homework early from your teacher if you need to, because you have to sleep early on Wednesday night to ensure a successful race on Thursday!
